Fundraising:
So Far
The appeal was officially launched in Chorley on Friday, 23rd February 2007 - exactly 92 years after the Pals left the town to go to War.
By August 2008 some £97,000 has been raised to pay for the statue and the plinth. Preston based sculptor Peter Hodgkinson, who designed the
'Splash' statue of Sir Tom Finney which resides outside Preston North End's ground, has been commissioned to design the statue. It will be a one and a third size statue of a First World War soldier going
"over the top". The statue will be on an eight foot high plinth which will have upon it the names of the 230 men who formed the original Pals, plus those who joined Y Company of the 11th (Service) Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment and were on the Somme on the fateful morning of the 1st July 1916.
Money is still needed to enable the names to go onto three brass plaques attached to the plinth. A quote is being sought for same and a further £15,000 may well be needed to ensure the project is completed.
