John Gent enlisted at Chorley on the 9th September 1914, being wounded at Serre on the 1st July 1916 and eventually discharged from the Army on the 12th December 1917.
John Gent was born at Chorley in 1891, one of two sons born to Ellen and James Atherton Gent; they lived at 10 Eaves Lane in the town according to the 1901 and 1911 Census records, being known to worship at St. James’.
