Following a meeting with Chorley Council this morning (Monday), arrangements have been made for repairs to the Chorley Pals Memorial site following the vandalism last week.

A specialist stonemason will be on site at the end of the week, once he has finished his work on the new War Memorial in Astley Park.

Commenting on the move, Chorley Pals Memorial Secretary Steve Williams said: “We are obviously upset that the memorial has been damaged but the priority is to get it repaired in time for Sunday. We don’t know how much it will cost yet, and who will pay for it.

“We do have a specific insurance policy for the memorial but if we make a claim then our premium will no doubt rise substantially next year, so we may have to pay for the repairs out our reserves or ask the Council to contribute in some way.”

Police are still investigating the incident, and we’ll keep you up to date with any developments via this website, as well as on Facebook and Twitter as soon as we get them.
