Thomas Cornwell was single and living with his parents James and Margaret at 7 Alker Street in Chorley when enlisting in the Pals in September 1914; he worked as a weaver at Greenfield Mill and worshipping at Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Thomas was wounded in the legs in the attack at Serre on the 1st July 1916, eventually receiving treatment at Whalley Hospital in Lancashire. After recovering, Thomas was transferred to the Labour Corps as Private 19125.
His nephew, Private James Lowe also served in the Pals. Born in Chorley in 1892, Thomas was the son of James and Margaret. Local records show that he married Elizabeth Ann Rothwell at Trinity Methodist Church in Chorley during 1917.
