William Ratcliffe

William Ratcliffe enlisted in the Pals on the 19th September 1914, being killed at Serre on the 1st July 1916.

He was born in Chorley in 1894, the son of Wilfred and Beatrice Ratcliffe of 101 Seymour Street in Chorley; he had two sisters and a brother. He was working as a Cotton Spinner in 1911 but was recorded as working at Chorley Bleachworks upon enlisting three years later; he was a single man and worshipped at Sacred Heart Church in the town.

William Ratcliffe has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
