William Waring was born in Heapey in late 1893 to Charlotte and Thomas Waring, being one of three children. In 1901 they lived in the hamlet of White Coppice and by 1911 they were living on Railway Road in Heapey, William working as a Stone Dresser in a quarry.
He was known to have been wounded during 1917 or 1918.
