Pals Memorial Co-Founder and Secretary Steve Williams inspected the damage to the memorial site this afternoon.
There is damage to all four sides of the memorial plinth, consistent with someone going on it with a skateboard or scooter.
In addition, there is quite a bit of damage to two new stone benches that were only installed on the site in July; again, consistent with someone going down each edge with a skateboard or scooter.
The matter is in the hands of the Police and Chorley Council, who are checking CCTV cameras covering the area.
Steve Williams said: “It is very distressing to see such mindless damage, and for what? The site is not a skatepark, it is a war memorial and should be respected as such. I don’t know how much it will cost the charity to repair the damage but we will endeavour to get it done before the Act of Remembrance on the Memorial at 12 noon on Remembrance Sunday.”
