James Cottam transferred to the Manchester Regiment as Private 44647 (date unknown) but was with the Pals when they left the town for training at Caernarvon in February 1915; he was known to attend St. George’s Church.
Other Information: There are four men of the same name on the 1911 Census living in Chorley – four are in their forties and one aged 12. If it is the latter, he enlisted under-age and may well have been transferred out by Lt. Col. Rickman prior to the Pals leaving for Egypt in late 1915.
