CUERDEN, Austin Pte. 15850

Austin Cuerden (is sometimes spelt Cuerdon), was recorded on the 1901 and 1911 Census as living on Town Lane in Whittle-le-Woods.

Austin was born in the village in 1897, one of six children to his parents Mary Jane and Henry Cuerden. He worked as a Weaver at Kem Mill in Whittle-le-Woods and worshipped at St. Chad’s R.C. Church on South Hill, Whittle-le-Woods.

Austin married Winifred Riley in Chorley in 1922 (the marriage entry given as Cuerden); his sister, Frances, married Chorley Pal, William Cannon.
