William Holmes lived in Chorley and attended Trinity Wesleyan Church.
He was known to have gone with the Chorley Pals to Caernarvon in February 1915 and at some stage was transferred to the Labour Corps with the number of 191257; his medal card indicates that he served abroad on active service.
