Richard Iddon was born in Croston in 1888 and enlisted in the Pals on the 29th September 1914 with other men from the village.
He then moved his wife and two daughters to Chorley, living at 47 Townley Street (Richard had married Edith Watkinson at St. Michael’s Church in Croston in 1910); he worked in textiles at Browns Mill and attended Cunliffe Street Methodist Church.
Richard was killed at Serre on the morning of the 1st July 1916 and has no known grave, being commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
