LOVELESS, Stephen Sgt.

Stephen Loveless was known to have worshipped at St. James’ Church in Chorley. He was also listed in the Accrington Observer in February 1915 as being a Sergeant in the Chorley Company, leaving for training at Caernarvon.

However, no trace can be found by way of serial number, service record and the like. He is not listed on the 1901 Census as he may well have been serving abroad in the Boer War, given the fact that he later became a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Pals. There is just one Stephen Loveless listed on the 1911 Census, being born in Tyldesley (near Bolton) in 1880 and living at 88 Leicester Street in Bolton; he was recorded as being married with three children. A Stephen Loveless, aged 50, died in 1931 at Halliwell in Bolton.
