John McDermott was known as ‘Jack’.
He joined the Pals with the Band in July 1915 and served as a Stretcher Bearer, being wounded at Serre on the 1st July 1916. He was treated at the South African General Hospital in Bournemouth and afterwards was transferred to the Military Mounted Police as Private P12586.
John McDermott was born in 1892, the son of William and Ann, living at 77 Geoffrey Street in Chorley; he worked as a Weaver at Talbot Mill in the Baggenley area of the town, attending St. Joseph’s Church.
John died on the 30th April 1970, aged 78.
