Peter O’Malley was born in Blackburn in either 1886 or 1889.
A married man, he enlisted with the Pals at Chorley on the 26th September 1914 and was known to have gone to Caernarvon with the Chorley Pals in February 1915. He was transferred to the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment as Private 28860, going overseas on the 19th December 1915.
Peter O’Malley was serving with the 8th Battalion when he died of illness, after the Armistice, on the 3rd December 1918; he is buried in Cherleroi Communal Cemetery in Belgium.
Records show that he married Annie McGowan in 1914 and their daughter Honara was born a year later. He was known to have worshipped at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Withnell and his wife was recorded as living at 49 Railway Road in Brinscall after the war.
