Owen Parry
Owen Parry was born on the 2nd July 1892 and would have been 24 years of age if he had survived the attack at Serre. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, as is his next door neighbour and fellow Chorley Pal, Seth Rollins. Both lived at Darlington Street in Coppull and attended St. John’s Church in the village.
Owen Parry enlisted in the Pals on the 17th September 1914 and was a single man, the son of Thomas and Mary Jane Parry; he worked as a Collier at Welch Whittle Colliery. The 1911 Census had him recorded as being born in Rainhill near Prescot and living at 13 Crawford Village in Upholland; he was working in a Colliery – the only one of 11 children in employment.
