RAINFORD, Herbert Cpl. 16018

Herbert Rainford was wounded in the head and back during the attack at Serre on the 1st July 1916.

Born in Chorley in 1894, the 1911 census had him living at 71 Eaves Lane in Chorley with his widowed mother, Alice, and three brothers. By 1914 he was a single man working as a Weaver at Fosterfield Mill, living at Southport Terrace and worshipping at Sacred Heart Church.
