James Richardson was born in Radcliffe, near Bury in 1895, the son of Isaiah and Margaret Anne Richardson. The 1911 Census had him living at Town Lane in Welch Whittle with his parents, two sisters and a brother; he was recorded as working as a “Timekeeper / Mining Student” (more than likely at the local colliery).
He was listed as going to Caernarvon with the Chorley Pals in February 1915 but nothing can be found about him thereafter (his service record is not in the National Archives nor is he on any medal rolls); however, local records showed that he survived the war, marrying Mary Draper at Coppull Parish Church in 1920.
