John Thompson was wounded at Serre on the 1st July 1916. After treatment he was transferred to the 12th (Duke of Lancaster’s) Battalion of the Manchester Regiment with a new number of 44661, being promoted to Lance Corporal.
John Thompson was serving with them when he was killed in action in 1918 and, having no known grave, is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
He was married with one child and lived at 16 Woodville Road in Chorley.
