YATES, George H. Pte.

George Yates is believed to be George Hodgkinson Yates. He was born in Chorley in 1894, one of two sons born to Jane and Seth Yates. The 1901 Census had the family living at 68 Moor Road in Chorley and by 1911 Census they were living at Charter Lane in Charnock Richard, with George working as a Cotton Spinner.

He left with the Pals to go for training at Caernarvon in February 1915, probably with the service number of 11/7435. At sometime during the war he transferred to the Labour Corps as Private 570149 and served abroad.

Other Information: See Pt. Henry Wilson for his original Pals number of 11/7434; he was given the service number of 15682. George Yates may well have been given the number 15685 or 6 which are missing from the 11th Battalion medal roll.
